The Road to Serfdom

en.wikipedia.org★★★Discusses what lead Germany and Russia to Socialism
1944

This book is essentially an elaboration on a quote from Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety".

Hayek describes how leaders changed the meaning of freedom to mean something more like power. As in have the power to do what one wants rather than simply the lack of restrictions. He also describes how when people perceive an injustice they will be eager to have the government fix it by decree but once decisions are made by decree, all decisions will seem unfair and nobody will be happy.

Overall, this book a little dry as it reads like a grumpy old man's lament about the way the world is headed. All be it one that was well justified and has stood the test of time.
